While the volleyball team was at home, hosting Dunseith for their Homecoming contest, the fifth and sixth grade youth football team braved the cold and wind to face Harvey in their league championship. Wade Senger and Travis Dillman of Interstate Engineering reported the approval of a 45 percent grant for the city’s $10 million water infrastructure project by the USDA Rural Development at the New Rockford City Commission meeting on Oct. 1. At the New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board meeting on Sept. 10, Linus Allmaras presented information about the Johnson Sports Park Improvement Project, for which fundraising is nearly complete. The plan is to install separate new scoreboards for football and baseball. On Monday, Sept. 10, the New Rockford-Sheyenne School District (NR-S) held its public levy meeting for citizens to comment on its budget and proposed tax levy for 2019. Superintendent Jill Louters explained to the board that the valuation went up by approximately $591,000 across the district’s territory in four counties, including Eddy, Benson, Foster and Wells counties. On September 10, the Eddy County Sheriff's Office received a call from NCZ Express, Inc. reporting a theft of tools from a service vehicle. The theft occurred at a gravel pit southeast of New Rockford. The Eddy County Sheriff's Office investigated the theft and identified a suspect. Thousands of dollars in tools were recovered, and the case is being sent to the Eddy County State's Attorney for formal charges to be filed. At a pre-trial conference on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. in Valley City, Alexander Lail of New Rockford entered amended pleas for the seven counts for which he was scheduled to stand trial.
