For Homecoming 2022, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets were set to host local rivals, the Carrington Cardinals, on Thursday, Sept. 15. With the recent rotation change, the Rockets thought they would finally have the chance to beat the Cardinals. But to no avail, the Rockets just couldn't defeat them. Before the start of the game, varsity players from both NR-S and Carrington were found in a circle praying. Why, you may be thinking? Recently, Sheyenne native and NR-S volleyball player, Baile...
After two tough non-region losses, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets knew they needed to change up their game plan. With a new rotation and an additional three players to the varsity bench, the Rockets were able to defeat the Barnes County North Bison 3-0 at home. The Rockets had previously been running a 5-1 rotation, with NR-S sophomore, Kaiya O'Connor, being a full-time setter. That rotation has now changed to a 6-2, with O'Connor and Ava Peterson splitting the setting duties. Other changes...

The New Rockford-Sheyenne junior high/junior varsity football teams hosted the Nelson County Chargers on Monday, Sept. 12 for their last home game of the season. The junior high team kicked off the game in high gear, with a touchdown from NR-S running back, Sawyer Huso. But this wasn't the only time fans heard the name "Sawyer Huso." Huso proceeded to score two more touchdowns for the Rockets. His speed and small stature aided in most, if not all, of these touchdowns. Huso was able to slip...
After the Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder took a close loss to the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets last season, the Thunder came back this season looking for revenge. And that's just what M/P-B got: bitter sweet revenge. The Thunder struck right at the start, with big blocks coming from sophomore middle blocker, Maddie Gefroh, and kills that stung from outside hitter, Allison Thomas. But those two weren't the only outstanding players for the Thunder. Brynn Sorenson and Kelsey Vandeberge also...
The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets' volleyball team hosted the Thompson Tommies in their season opener game on Tuesday, August 30. This season looks quite different for the Rockets. Not only were they sporting their new jerseys, but there's also quite a few less girls on the bench. The team is made up of only eight girls, between the grades of 8-12. Although the team may be small, these girls play well together. The first set of the varsity game ended with Thompson winning 25-16. But this team...
Sunflower seed and hot cocoa season is back and better than ever. Well, besides the four letter word we all hate soon to be arriving. The junior high and junior varsity football teams kicked off their season on Monday, August 29 against the Four Winds/Minnewaukan Indians. Let's start with some junior high highlights. With only minutes into the game, eighth grader, Malaki Kukowski, pushed through the Indians' defensive line to sack their quarterback. This set the momentum for the Rockets....
Floor burn season is back. Yes, you read that right. Floor burn season, also known as volleyball. You may be thinking, "Why is she calling the volleyball season 'floor burn season'?" Anyways, back to the main point of this article. The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets' volleyball team officially kicked off their season with...
The weekend of May 26-28, seemed like a perfect weekend to break some state records. Well, for NR-S sophomore, Kelsie Belquist, anyway. As Belquist qualified for nine events, she was able to choose four to compete in; the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Belquist used all the power in her body...

The New Rockford-Sheyenne varsity and junior high tracksters battled the wind on Saturday, May 14 in Fessenden at the Lloyd Memorial Meet. The wind kept most athletes from finishing their events in state-qualifying times. But wind didn't seem to slow down NR-S track star, Kelsie Belquist. Although Belquist has state-qualified in eight events alone, she continues to better her times second by second. Belquist competed in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and the 4x200-meter relay. Belquist...

All six of these student athletes are from ninth grade and under. The golf team also donned a new coach for golf; that being John Christiansen. With a beautiful day, with only a hint of North Dakota wind, the Rockets girls' 4x200-meter relay team was able to secure, yet another, state qualification. The 4x200-meter relay team was made up of Lucy Meier, Katie Allmaras,...

Mother Nature strikes yet again. The New Rockford-Sheyenne varsity and junior high teams were scheduled to attend the 2022 CNDC Outdoor in Fessenden on Tuesday, May 10. But after a few inches of rain fell the night before, the CNDC Outdoor meet had to be relocated to the Geographical Center of North America, also known as Rugby. This slight change didn't affect any of the Rocket athletes though. Multiple NR-S varsity and junior high athletes either placed in the top 10 of their event or set...
The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets and the Warwick Warriors traveled some miles these past two track meets, by traveling to Rugby on Thursday, May 5 and then traveling to Carrington on Saturday, May 7. The Rockets’ track team traveled to Belcourt on Thursday, April 28 to compete in the Turtle Mountain Invite. Kelsie Belquist was the name on three of those events. Belquist took first place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.03 seconds, first place in the 200-meter...

On Tuesday, April 5, the New Rockford-Sheyenne track team had intended on competing in the Hazen Early Bird Outdoor Meet, but due to unforeseen weather circumstances, the meet was canceled. In the nick of time, NR-S tracksters registered for the Maple River Conference Indoor Track & Field Invitational, held in the Olson Forum at Concordia College. This last minute change of events didn’t seem to bother any of the track athletes, specifically Kelsie Belquist. Belquist, yet again, blew it out of the park in three-of-four events; which were the 5...

As of March 23, 2022 there are 40 student athletes enrolled in track and field in grades 7-12. The R...
