The Cougars arrived in New Rockford on Thursday, Jan. 26 boasting an 11-2 overall record, and they showed the Rockets how they earned such a strong record that evening. North Prairie relied on a trio of excellent shooters – Blake Mattson, Jeffery Rosinski and Mitchell Leas – to do most of their scoring. The three of them accounted for all of their teams' first-quarter poi...

While most of Eddy County is now represented by District 14 legislators, the northeast corner of the county is not. That's because the entire Spirit Lake Nation Reservation, a portion of which extends into northeast Eddy County, is now within neighboring District 15. The reservation used to be split into multiple districts, but during the 2021 redistricting process, legislators prioritized keeping North Dakota's reservations together, even if it meant splitting up counties. Now, the district...

On Friday, Jan. 20, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted the St. John Woodchucks, and once again showed just how far they've come since the season began. The Woodchucks came into town with a respectable 6-3 overall record. Compared to the Rockets' record of 1-6, one might understand why the Woodchucks probably expected a win. Admittedly, St. John looked like the better team in the first quarter, having outscored the Rockets 11-7 in the first eight minutes. But NR-S turned the tables in the...

The 68th North Dakota Legislative Assembly got underway on Jan. 3, and for the first time in a decade, New Rockford and Eddy County are not being represented by District 23 legislators. Following the 2020 census and subsequent redistricting process, most of Eddy County was moved into District 14, as urbanization forced rural districts to become larger. The old District 23 was eliminated entirely. District 23 legislators who used to represent Eddy County, Joan Heckaman and Bill Devlin, have since...
It was a long time coming, but the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets finally have a mark in the win column. Hosting the Washburn Cardinals on Saturday, Jan. 14, the Rockets were in desperate need of a big win if they had any hope of turning their season around, as this game would be their last before facing regional opponents. Though the Rockets entered Saturday's game winless, the Cardinals hadn't been enjoying a great season either, having won just three games to seven losses - if ever there was...

The Miners, however, were showing off just-as-impressive accuracy from downtown. In the first eight minutes alone they cashed in three shots from beyond...
