The New Rockford Park District's ice rink is finally open for skating. As of Tuesday, Jan. 10, snow emergency declarations had been issued by both the City of New Rockford and Eddy County. The New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board spent much of their monthly meeting last Monday considering a professional fundraising firm to raise money for the second gym project. The price tag for the project, while fluid, has ballooned since the gym was first considered. An abandoned home in New Rockford has been destroyed after being engulfed by flames in the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 31. New Rockford Fire Chief, Brian Hopfauf, said his department arrived at the scene, located on the 1200 block of 4th Avenue North, at around 5:17 a.m. to find the home already consumed by fire. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, County Commissioners heard an update from Eddy County Emergency Manager, Lisa Thompson, regarding the county’s effort to install an alarm system at the courthouse. Candace Olzweski has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an incident on Sept. 17, 2022, during which she assaulted Eddy County deputy Bennett Suave after breaking out of her handcuffs.
