Saturday, Nov. 9, Marge Anderson, Patti Larson, Neil and Laurie Westby and many residents of Sheyenne, Minnewaukan, New Rockford and Devils Lake communities attended the funeral service for Myron Jury. Besides his superintendent role in our schools, he also was very active in each community in which he lived. As recent as this summer, Patti visited with Myron about the stone pit restoration project in Sheyenne. An experienced stone mason, he was more than willing to share his expertise. Last Wednesday, Jan Loe's niece Marcia Bollingberg of Courtney met Jan, Steve and Steph for supper in Jamestown. Halloween night was calm, dry and not very cold so a good number of Trick or Treaters covered the streets of Sheyenne on Thursday night. Tea Cup, the parade cow, had a costume and was seen on the east end of town. Corn harvest was in full swing last week. Several people from the Sheyenne community attended the funeral of Shirley (Larson) Gillig at Evans Funeral Home in New Rockford Tuesday, Oct. 2. Our condolences to Shirley's family and friends. Pumpkins along Main Street and decorations for Halloween in several yards around town brought a smile to many. Another pleasant week weather-wise allowed construction projects to buzz along. On Sunday, Sept. 22, Dave Karlsbraaten and Ken Ames were two of 215 veterans who were on the North Dakota/Minnesota Honor Flight. They were greeted at the Fargo airport with bagpipes playing patriotic music and motorcycle veterans thanking the vets for their service. Upon landing in Baltimore, Md., they loaded buses and the first stop was Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. The $250 blackout had a lucky winner when Dianne Hanson called bingo last Saturday night. Other volunteers for Sheyenne Civic Association were Tim Hartl and Randy Keller selling cards and Darlene Kolstad serving lunch. Saturday, Sept. 7, when Sheyenne GRIT hosts, the blackout will be back to $175. The Sheyenne area saw another 1.80 inches of rain last week on Wednesday night. The tomato plants at the community garden are struggling to come back after the hail storm on July 16. Michelle Gilley and Patti Larson picked off about five gallons of damaged fruit so the plants could focus energy on new blossoms. The setback will be significant before new ripe tomatoes are seen. Many households in the Sheyenne community welcomed families home for the 4th of July celebration. Last week started out wet. It rained Monday evening, so the community garden volunteers didn't meet. Any time is a good time to pull weeds in the cucumber, corn or onion rows. The potatoes have been hilled up and are shading out the weeds. Tomatoes are mulched.
