    Each year the North Dakota Newspaper Association (NDNA) Better Newspaper Contest recognizes exceptional work in advertising, news, photography and overall design in newspapers throughout the state. In the mid-size weekly division, the "New Rockford Transcript" received a total of 16 awards in the contest, some in all three major categories: Advertising, News and Photography.   • Womacks family model horse donation makes impact on children with disabilities

    Maynard Womacks was born with Cerebral Palsy and had a love of horses. Unable to ride himself, he collected model horses. When he passed away at the age of 60, he had over 600 horses. Last year, the "Transcript" ran a story on the Womacks family and how they donated 400 of Maynard's model horses to RED Arena in Dripping Springs, Texas.     The New Rockford-Sheyenne girls volleyball team is on a roll. They played good overall matches and swept their opponents in two regional match-ups this past week.     On Wednesday, August 1, a jury in Valley City deliberated for a little over two hours before returning a guilty verdict in the Alexander Lail attempted murder case.     Every year, approximately 300,000 kids go to the emergency department because of bicycle injuries. Occasionally, these bicycle injuries can be fatal. We can work towards preventing injury by promoting bicycle safety. To that end, Eddy County Public Health will present Bicycle Safety sessions for kids on Tuesday, July 10 in New Rockford.     New Rockford City Commissioner DeVon Allmaras passed away in her home on June 5 after an ongoing battle with cancer. It was a battle that didn't ever seem to keep her from maintaining her duties to the community where she was born and raised.
