    Allison Lindgren|Jan 13, 2020

“Although no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.” Carl Bard If you’ve read previous columns, you know that I am not a fan of New Year’s resolutions. The success rate statistics on New Year’s resolutions are abysmal. However, I am a fan of goal-setting and that’s why I liked this quotation from Carl Bard. It draws attention to one of the best things about a New Year’s resolution but reminds us that no matter what happened yesterday, w...

This isn't Coach Risovi's first archery practice. He knows how to prepare young archers for the first archery tournament of the season. Many of these young archers will be attending their first tournament on Saturday, Jan. 11 in Carrington. As Coach Risovi has said before, "There are two things we try to make priorities when going to tournaments. Number one, we represent the school and community as best as we can. After that, we hope to shoot our best score." For these up and coming archers, it...

  • Our outdoors: Down the tubes

    Nick Simonson|Jan 13, 2020

Give or take, it’s about 250 days until upland seasons open again. It’s really 253, but at this stage in the beginning of the long wait until that semi-warm, dew-covered morning in mid-September brings the first chuckling grouse flushing from some CRP along an alfalfa field, rounding down is the best thing to do for my psyche. The false hope and excitement generated in my lab by the toting of a cased shotgun into the house and down to the basement mirrors my own that these days will pass qui...

It is not only unsightly, but it is illegal to leave fish, including minnows used for bait, behind on the ice. According to state fishing regulations, when a fish is caught, anglers must either immediately release the fish back into the water unharmed, or reduce them to their daily possession. It is common practice for some anglers to fillet fish on the...

    Stephen Whitty|Jan 13, 2020

"Star Wars" Rated PG-13 Stars: Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac Director: J.J. Abrams A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a band of plucky rebels picked up a lightsaber or two and went to war against an empire. And they're still at it. But is the Force still with them? Are we? The latest and last film in the Star Wars triple-trilogy works really hard for fans. It brings back just about every franchise character that ever lived. Ever died, too (that's what flashbacks and...
