Back in December of 2022, Eddy County commissioners carried a motion to demolish the historic Hanson Bridge, which has connected New Rockford to the northern bank of the James River since 1904. However, more than two years later the picturesque bridge still stands, and now there's an opportunity for someone to save the historic structure via adoption. The bridge – which connects 6th Street North to River Drive – has been closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic for decades due to its poo...

I’ve received a notice for jury duty. This isn’t a cause for panic. Goodness, no. I don’t need to panic. All I need to do is move to Alaska and hide under a rock for 10 or 15 years, or however long it takes for the judicial system to notice I didn’t show up in court. But the only thing I’m more nervous about than jury duty is actively being pursued by the police, or the IRS, or both at the same time. So I can’t leave. All I can do is stare at the slip of green paper with the address of the loca...
It's day 3 – the legislature is up and running. Last week we heard from the tribes, the judiciary and the governor, each providing their status, and what they hope to see during this session. This week, Governor Armstrong will propose his budget to the House and Senate just as Governor Burgum did back in December. Both budgets will provide an outline for the legislature to look at and use as a sort of blueprint for determining the budget. Some of us have concerns about using Governor Burgum's budget as there wasn’t much reduction in spending fr...

Five separate players scored double digits that evening, something that'd become commonplace so far this season as the NR-S...

Navigating grain markets can feel like a guessing game, especially if it's not your favorite part of farming. Many farmers excel at raising strong crops and yields but often tune out the markets, missing opportunities or falling into a wait-and-see approach. If you're holding onto unsold grain from last year, you're not alone-the USDA's September 2024 Grain Stocks report shows on-farm corn stocks jumped 29% from the previous year, reflecting a growing trend of delayed sales. The good news? With...
