  • Thunder get struck

    Kyrie O'Connor|Feb 14, 2022

On Monday, Feb. 7, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets traveled 40 miles south to take on the Medina-Pingree/Buchanan Thunder in the Pingree high school gymnasium. The Rockets were on a 2-game winning streak, and were ready to make it three. But before this matchup could begin, the M-P/B Thunder recognized their three seniors; Ryleigh Martin, Abigail Reich and Briallen Thu. Congratulations to these three seniors on their 2021-22 basketball season. Now let's move on to the game. With the tip going...

  • Rockets defeat Bison/Lady Raiders on the road

    Kyrie O'Connor|Feb 14, 2022

On Thursday, Jan. 3, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets skidded over to Leal to take on the Barnes County North Bison. The Rockets pulled off an exemplary win over the Bison, defeating them 81-16. With BCN seniors Hanna Wieland and Trinity Faber out, the Bison struggled to keep up with the Rockets. NR-S had the opportunity to full-court press, and they took full advantage of it. With the ability to full -court press, the Rockets were able to steal the ball quite frequently, which led to many brea...

  • Rockets blast past warriors

    Nathan Price|Feb 14, 2022

On a snowy Friday night in northeast Eddy County, the Warwick Warriors played host to the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets in another District 7 thriller. Following a series of debilitating near-comeback losses for NR-S, their largest hurdle entering Warwick was merely staying afloat in the first quarter, and that's exactly what they did. The Warriors' Mark Fassett Jr. got the Warriors off to a strong start offensively, but Rockets' senior Nick Berglund was every bit as strong. In the first eight m...

  • Cardinal wrestlers advance to state duals

    Erik Gjovik|Feb 14, 2022

The biggest battle coming into the Region 2 Dual Tournament for the Carrington Cardinals was the numbers game. With a 4-8 record in all duals coming into the state-qualifying tournament at May-Port-CG High School Saturday, February 5, the Cards had the wrestlers to make a run if all went their way. If they could only get past their weakness of open weight classes. Seeded fourth, CHS wrestlers picked each other up from match to match, and advanced to the finals with first-round wins over...

New Rockford-Sheyenne freshman Hunter Genre came out on top at the New Rockford archery tournament held last weekend. Genre scored a 286, earning him not only first place in the high school boys division, but also top male archer of the tournament. He was bested only by seventh grader Mackenzie Nogowski of North Sargeant, who scored a whopping 290 points in her bullseye flight. Nogowski finished first in the middle school girls division and was the top female archer of the day. Other Rocket...

  • Our Outdoors: It's Electric

    Nick Simonson|Feb 14, 2022

I recognize a strange duality in the way I approach the outdoors with technology – going low teach or high tech - and the options I'm provided for any given trip on the water allow me to indulge either side of that coin. On the ice, I was an early adopter of sonar, begging and pleading for a Vexilar FL-8 for Christmas one year and not fishing the first week of holiday break until I'd received it in my stocking, deeming the inability to see what was below to be such a handicap to a successful o...

  • The Peluso Report: All Mixed Up

    Mike Peluso|Feb 14, 2022

I have definitely learned one thing these past few winter seasons. Don't try and predict anything, that's a waste of time. Just as soon as you think you know, or think you know what is going happen, the ice fishing gods like to mess with you. Mother Nature has really been a gem this season. Especially up here in the Devils Lake region. We have seen a lot of extremes this winter, and our latest was a windstorm that produced winds over 70 miles per hour. These massive pressure changes are hard on...

  • NDG&F Where to Fish Page Gets Overhaul

    Nick Simonson|Feb 14, 2022

To help anglers better connect with an array of fisheries information complied by the North Dakota Game & Fish Department (NDG&F), the agency recently upgraded the search functions associated with its "Where to Fish" page. Where previously the landing page provided separate links to various pages and files containing information, it now allows anglers to find data for a lake all in one place, from locating waters near a certain city or town, to reviewing stocking reports and survey results. By t...
