    “Unfortunately, there isn’t anything that can be done to keep the Carrington location open.” Those were the words of a representative of Shopko, Ryan Lawlor, on Tuesday, Feb. 12 regarding the closure of the Shopko Hometown store in Carrington. This followed the announcement on Feb. 6 that Carrington and six other communities in North Dakota would lose their stores, as the Wisconsin-based company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.     The North Dakota Council on the Arts and Governor Burgum have announced the recipients of the 2019 Governor's Award for the Arts. Amid 26 nominations, six award winners have been selected. Among those is Annette Hovey, who teaches choir for grades 7-12 and band for grades 5-12 at New Rockford-Sheyenne (NR-S) Public School.     The small but mighty New Rockford-Sheyenne High School speech team opened its season with meets in Devils Lake and Rolette. First, Cassidy Holth, Jaden Gray and Sandra Larson participated in a Class A meet in Devils Lake on Saturday, Feb. 2. Gray placed third in poetry and Larson fifth in radio.
