Parents of young children choose every day between caring for kids at home and entering the workforce. By opening a child care business, Wendi (Longnecker) Brandner is effectively doing both, providing a service so other parents know their children are in good hands when they go to work. In an ample sized single-family home just two blocks from the school, and within walking distance of the city park and pool, is Wendi's daycare. Interestingly enough, this home-based business that didn't exist...

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “partnership” as a relationship usually involving close cooperation between parties having specified and joint rights and responsibilities. For the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) and soil conservation districts (SCDs) working on watershed projects, strong partnerships are critical. The NDDoH contributes both financial and technical assistance to the partnerships. Financial assistance is primarily available for water quality projects through two sources: · Section 319 nonpoint source pollution ma...

"It's tough enough to be sick." Set to open this summer, the JRMC Cancer Center will help more than 100 patients each month, saving more than 160,000...
We have completed the first half of the 66th Legislative Session and look forward to catching up with some things at home before starting the second half next Wednesday. We also want to reflect a little on where we are at with the state budget and certain policy issues as we approach crossover this week. The Appropriations Committee has spent countless hours meticulously going through every line of the budget. We expect that the state budget, as it comes from the House at crossover, will call for spending less than the Governor's budget. We...
The annual Valentine's Day Ball, held on Friday Feb. 15 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, was a fun filled evening for all. Musicians Cathy and Steve Bowman and Brenda Bachmeier set the mood for residents and their families to partake in dancing and other festivities. Friends and family continued to enjoy the evening...

The people of North Dakota don’t trust the Legislature. As a matter of fact, they never did. In the first place, the Legislature has shown little respect for the people. When the people enact legislation through the initiative, the Legislature spends considerable time at subverting the intent of the voters. In the recent general election, the people initiated a constitutional amendment to protect the integrity of legislative politics and expose interest group money. The measure passed with a con...
It almost appears as if the North Dakota Legislature is working against families and the health of infants. In a shocking 61-32 vote, the ND House defeated HB 1330 a bill to improve the state’s current breastfeeding law. The bill sponsored by Rep. Dobervich of Fargo, would have protect nursing mothers from being removed from public places or being charged with indecent exposure. Currently it is legal to breastfeed in public, if the woman is “discreet and modest” but those words are subjective and undefined and must be removed to provide the b...
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the looniest lefty I've seen elected to Congress in my lifetime. But Ilhan Omar, her fellow rookie House member from Minnesota, is so radical she scares the pants off me. After watching Omar in action, it's pretty clear to me that the Muslim Democrat hates America almost as much as she hates Israel. Before she got to Washington she had already raised eyebrows for her support of the socialist dictator who's wrecked Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and her call to abolish ICE...
According to NBC News, we are in the early stages of mood forecasting technology that could help stop bad moods even before they strike. (No, this is a different story than the one about using surplus North Korean missiles to take out your lowlife cousin's Winnebago before he can embark on a month-long visit, although that too could stop bad moods before they strike.) NBC says wearable devices with special apps could track our psychological health by recording our heart rate, perspiration,...

Our destiny is the core of our purpose and constantly urges and drives our responsibility to make sure we are doing everything we can to accomplish our mission. Dreams and faith go hand in hand. May we also consider that working a temporary job might be necessary in order to support our family while we are developing our...
