Republican Rep. Luke Simons, a rancher from Dickinson, said during a committee hearing that he was targeted by a “busybody” who called the sheriff multiple times with accusations of animal neglect. Simons said he got fed up with the calls and told the sheriff to get a warrant. “He said, ‘We don’t need a search warrant. This (outbuilding) is clearly over 60 feet from that house,’” said Simons, who was surprised to learn that the Fourth Amendment didn’t protect outbuildings on his property. Simon introduced House Bill 1290 to require law enf...

Sarah replied, "I own my own photography business. Photography used to be a hobby or a second job for me. But now it has grown and...

  • America's Reaganomics caused suffering

Arland Ray Clelland, ARCS- Arlands Radical Common Sense|Mar 4, 2019

Part I Back in January of 1981, when the world population was around 3.5 billion, we inaugurated Ronald Reagan as our president. Corporate taxes were around 70 percent, and President Reagan thought it was a good idea to cut those taxes in half. Business in the 80s was good, until the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA) came around in the 90s. When Reagan took office, the U.S. had only three billionaires, and not a single one was Oprah, Mark Cuban or Donald Trump (but they all thank Reagan.) What Reaganomics started was the creation of 1.25...

Governor Doug Burgum, North Dakota Governor|Mar 4, 2019

As the halls of the state Capitol turn quiet for a few days during the Legislature’s mid-session break, it’s a good time to share a quick progress report with North Dakota citizens. We entered this session with a forward-looking plan that addressed North Dakota’s workforce challenges, provided increased funding for our biggest needs and recommended bold investments to position our state and its residents for a prosperous future. We delivered a fiscally conservative and structurally sound budget that improved transparency and replenished reser...

  • Partners in crime

    Corey Seymour|Mar 4, 2019

What a glorious moment to be alive! It’s like the ancient Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times.” Like millions of Americans, I watched, rapt, while Michael Cohen – Trump’s lawyer, confidante, and go-to fixer for a dozen or so years – testified in front of Congress. The night before, I sat, stunned, as Republican congressman Matt Gaetz threatened Cohen on the eve of his testimony. At the same time, our fearless leader – having finally overcome those debilitating bone spurs that ke...

  • Living on Purpose: Injecting faith into our doubt

    Dr. Billy Holland|Mar 4, 2019

There is a beautiful passage found in John chapter 20 that is a wonderful example of how much God loves us and wants to encourage us. The friends and family of Christ were gathered together after his horrific crucifixion and were still grieving over his death when all of a sudden, he appears in their midst! Even though they remembered how he had promised to return I’m sure they were still awestruck. Jesus stretches out his hands and reveals his wounds, and of course, they are overjoyed to see h...

  • Sermonette: A Heart of Thanksgiving

    Rev. Kevin Libby|Mar 4, 2019

As I considered what to write for this week’s sermonette, I came across the prayer I read at the Eddy County Ministerial Thanksgiving Service this year. As I read it once again, my mind began to think of how fitting it would be to share it now in light of the long winter months and the tendency for us to focus on the negatives of what we are facing instead of the goodness of God. My prayer is that you and I would to keep a heart of thanksgiving no matter what we face. Philippians 4:4 (NIV) “Rejoice in the Lord Always. I will say it again: Rej...

    Merry Helm|Mar 4, 2019

March 4, 2019 — About this time in 1911, the town of Milton and the surrounding communities were reeling from a series of events that led to the murder trial of one of the town’s most highly regarded citizens, Dr. J. Cavalier County knew her as Lilly Sweet, a well-liked schoolteacher who had spent much of her youth in the area. She was in Milton visiting friends when she became violently ill. She died the next day...
