The goofy, character comedy that defined the '60s comes to life for new generations to love in DPRCA's "Gilligan's Island: The Musical." Whether they reminisced of sitting on the couch in front of the tube, or they were too young to know anything about the TV show this musical is based, patrons seemed to agree that DPRCA's production was fantastic. "Another great musical. Definitely captured the heart of Gilligan's Island. Very funny and entertaining. Great opening night!" wrote one patron....
At the meeting on Tuesday, April 2, the Eddy County Commission listened to Eddy County State’s Attorney Ashley Lies as she informed them about a process called a quiet title action, which may be advantageous regarding the former Mill Pump and Cheers property. A quiet title suit can be called to remove the cloud of any claim or potential claim to ownership of the property. The cloud can be a claim of full ownership of the property or a claim of partial ownership, such as a lien in an amount t...
The face of the newly appointed Eddy County Road Superintendent is hardly a new one to Eddy County residents. New Rockford native, Todd Weber has stepped in to assume responsibility for the Eddy County road department. Weber officially began his new role on March 11, and Mother Nature promptly welcomed him with a spring storm and several inches of new snow on March 15. This gave Weber the opportunity to get out on a blade and to get to know some of the more distant Eddy County roads. He said...
More rate increases for city residents are in effect. After the matter was on the agenda for three meetings, the New Rockford City Commission got serious about sewer, sanitation and street light rates at their April 1 meeting. Auditor George Ritzke has said that the sanitation fund is running a deficit, as the city has absorbed 3 percent annual increases from Waste Management for a few years without raising rates. Ritzke recommended a 15 percent increase in the base sanitation rate. Upon...
Crisis. We’ve all known it in some way or another. Sometimes we are facing the crisis and other times we are watching others. Regardless, there is one thing we are often told to do- to stay calm. Breathe, and don’t panic. Sounds familiar, right? Often it is easier said than done. But it also helps if we know how to respond to the crisis situation. Fire? Stay low to avoid smoke, evacuate the building, call 911. Profuse bleeding? Stabilize the victim, apply pressure to the wound, seek medical attention. Dangerously distraught friend? See...

Bald Eagle Nests The state Game and Fish Department is asking for help in locating active bald eagle nests in North Dakota. Game and Fish conservation biologist Sandra Johnson said the department is looking for locations of nests with eagles present, not individual eagle sightings. Eagles lay eggs in early-to-mid March, and hatch about a month later. Johnson said it's easy to distinguish an eagle nest because of its enormous size. "And you don't have to travel far to find one, as we have around...

The City of New Rockford is submitting an application for funding from the North Dakota Forest Service to help replant trees in the community. With this grant, trees will be planted on the boulevards - but we need your help to water and care for the trees once they are planted! New Rockford lost over 1,000 trees in the July 2018 storm – along streets, in yards, the parks, golf course and cemetery. This is a wonderful opportunity for New Rockford to not only replant a diversity of trees, but to also create a healthy, resilient community f...

On April 5, Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota invited people across the state to wear blue to show support for children and families during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. If you missed it, don’t worry, there are still ways to show support. “Small steps can make a big difference in a child’s life,” explained Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota Executive Director Sandy Tibke. “We want to help people understand that it’s possible to do the things they love—cooking, making art and music, reading, or playing sports—and, at the same time, help...
In the April 1 edition of the Transcript we inadvertanly left out one of the Western National Qualifiers for archery. In addition to the 3D we did report, Alex Weisenbuger also qualified in the elementary boys bullseye division by placing third with a score of 272. We apologize for this omission. Good luck to Alex and all the NR-S archers at Western Nationals!...

We have served with many of those legislators and thank them, as well as their families, for the work they did on behalf of the citizens of our great state. In another special ceremony this past week, Gov. Burgum delivered remarks and...

We have almost reached the end of the legislative session and don’t know what kind of higher education board suits North Dakota. Neither have we figured out what a “legacy” fund is. North Dakota has had one for 10 years and no one seems to know what it is. It was created when the Legislature saw gushers of oil – and taxes – pouring out the Bakken around 2008 and wondered how they would control spending with all of this money oozing around. So they proposed to the people that we build a wall ar...
The most troubling thing about the end of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation was the reaction of so many on the left when they learned that Donald Trump was not a Russian asset. They were, to put it mildly, disappointed. Philadelphia native and MSNBC host Chris Matthews appeared apoplectic (admittedly not unusual for him) and went into a rant that ended with: "How can they let Trump off the hook?" His colleague Joy Reid took aim at Attorney General William Barr's neutrality and...
Tax season is upon us, which gives us a choice: Laugh or cry. I choose to laugh. Dave Barry offers useful advice for getting through this trying time: "It's income tax time again, Americans: time to gather up those receipts, get out those tax forms, sharpen up that pencil, and stab yourself in the aorta." You got that right, Dave! For the sin of being self-employed, I spend hours navigating a sea of receipts, which I share with my CPA, who tells me I owe $5,000 more than I feared I would....
Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury-related death for teens. That’s an eye-opening statistic for anyone to read, especially parents. In North Dakota, there is a statewide strategy called Vision Zero, to reduce motor vehicle crash deaths and serious injuries to zero. The goal of zero fatalities is not only attainable, but also vital. When it comes to your life, or the lives of teen drivers, family, and friends, is any other number acceptable? Parents, grandparents and guardians play a vital role in determining what kind of driver a...
