If you've had any experience with Cassidy Clifton, you've likely been struck by her loving, thoughtful, giving nature. Let me tell you, this 17-year-old young woman is a fighter. Back in June of 2017, Cassidy was experiencing significant lower back pain. Not finding relief after chiropractor visits, or physical therapy, a weird MRI scan had her family doctor send her to the University of Minnesota. An Aneurysmal Bone Cyst (ABC tumor) had been forming on her spine, even growing into her bone. Rul...
John Scanson of New Rockford is a man who enjoys staying busy. Over this past winter, he made around 200 birdhouses and other wood projects to donate to people in the area. Of these projects, 24 of them went to the students in Mrs. Hager's fifth grade class. Scanson first met these students last fall, at the Central North Dakota Steam Thresher's Reunion in New Rockford. Many of Mrs. Hager's students enthusiastically helped him pick potatoes from the freshly loosened soil, and after a short...

Have you opened your “my Social Security” account yet? If not, you should! Scammers are now going to the Social Security Administration website and setting up “my Social Security” accounts of workers that are of retirement age in an attempt to steal their retirement benefits. People age 62 and older are most at risk. Scammers obtain personal information, including Social Security numbers, and head to the Social Security website to open a “my Social Security” account in victims’ names. They apply for funds, requesting a lump sum payout for an...
Community members, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get gardening! After a yearlong hiatus, volunteers are bringing back the community vegetable garden, and help is needed to ensure that residents have access to fresh produce this season. The garden is located on 2nd Ave SE, just two blocks east of U.S. Hwy. 281. It is northwest of the NDSU Extension Eddy County Office, on the north side of the street. Planting is underway, thanks to the efforts of Carter Richter, who disced the ground, a...

By invitation of David Reiten, heir of the greatest show most Norwegians will ever see, the Norsk Høstfest is luring all of the rabble in Scandinavia to spread fear among the natives by coming to the USA for “pure scandimonium” September 26-29. Of course, the Høstfest attracts thousands of local Scandinavians and a sizable number of the unwashed. But that’s okay. We aren’t bigots except for people we don’t know. September 26 gives us four months to wall in vulnerable cities, e.g. Monango, Uk...
Though it’s cliche, Memorial Day reminds us that freedom isn’t free. It costs us, sometimes dearly. This is especially true when we find ourselves unprepared for a conflict we probably should have expected to be drawn into. America was not ready for World War I, for World War II, or for the Korean War. We weren’t even ready for the Iraq War, despite the fact it was initiated by the United States after all efforts at a negotiated settlement failed. As former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsf...
Last Tuesday night, the President of the United States held a campaign rally in Nashville, Tenn. Well—not a campaign rally, exactly: Trump’s next election is two years and five months away. Heavily orchestrated rallies like this one are held, according to many members of Trump’s own inner circle, to boost the President’s ego. You see, after he was elected and forced to spend most of his time in the White House, Trump realized that he missed the adoring, fawning crowds from the campaign trail, wh...
Thank you for the great article honoring the volunteers of the Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association. However, there was one omission: the W.A.C.A. was organized by our mother, Elizabeth (Libby) Wilson in 1954 following the death of our father. The women listed were, indeed, on the Board of Directors. The officers elected at the organizing meeting October 21, 1954, were Elizabeth Wilson, President; Lucy Allmaras, Vice President; Adeline Leske, Secretary and Jean Baeder, Treasurer. Our mother, Elizabeth Wilson, continuously served as f...

Memorial means to “remember” and every year on the last Monday in May, we honor those who sacrificed their lives in the line of active military service. On Memorial Day we stop and pay our respect to the ones who were willing to stand in the gap between freedom and tyranny. The First Amendment was not only signed into existence with ink but with the blood of over 1.1 million Americans that have died in U.S. wars, along with many more that have suffered from physical and mental difficulties. Over...
Whom do you listen to? In times of desperation people have said to me, “I have prayed to God, and asked for God’s help, but I don’t understand why God has not answered me.” It might be good to remember that Satan is the enemy of our souls. It is Satan’s voice that whispers messages to discourage and condemn us. It is Satan’s voice that tells us we are not good enough, and that God could never forgive or love us. And it is Satan’s voice that accuses us of lacking of faith. Satan is having a heyday in our lives whenever we feel that God is far aw...
