Lester Roberts attended the funeral of Norris Rud Thursday, May 30 at Grandfield Lutheran Church, rural Sheyenne. Lester also took in the Memorial Day program in Sheyenne. Friday, Lester traveled to the International Peace Gardens to attend the Friday night activities prior to the Annual International Fiddle Contest held at the Memorial Auditorium which was held on Saturday. The New Rockford community hosted a blood drive with Vitalant, formerly United Blood Services, on May 23 at First Lutheran Church, which helped collect a total of 41 units of blood products for patients in need. A total of 39 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 34 individuals were able to donate at the Vitalant blood drive on May 23. Six donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for certain practices under the continuous Conservation Reserve Program. Eligible farmers, ranchers and private landowners can sign up at their local USDA Farm Service Agency offices. Practices eligible for enrollment include grassed waterways, filter strips, riparian buffers and wetland restoration. Steph Loe met the Kolles family in Rugby on Saturday. Steph, Medora, Ruby and Elis returned to Sheyenne. Arthur 'Art' Johnnie Eckman, 82, Jamestown, N.D., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo.
