    Jim Davis|Aug 13, 2018

For one man, Frank Ingalls, the ongoing safety of the structure became a lifetime battle. Ingalls held his first railroad job in 1866 as a station helper in Danvers, Mass. In the 1870s, Ingalls came west, first to Denver, but he eventually moved to Fargo as a carpenter for the bridge division. I...

  • Dakota Recreation Report

    Patricia Stockdill|Aug 13, 2018

Outdoor notes: *Beware of blue-green algae on area lakes and wetlands with weather and water conditions prime for the deadly toxin growth. Keep dogs out of any questionable water because it’s deadly and death can occur rapidly. *Remember to have adequate numbers of lifejackets and proper lighting on boats. *Anglers need to plan to keep any fish caught in water deeper than 25 feet because they typically can’t survive coming up from that deep. *Aug. 15: Tundra swan applications due. *Aug. 15: Ear...

  • Backpack program in need of sponsors

    Aug 13, 2018

A new school year is almost upon us! The Hunger Free Food Pantry is once again looking for donors to sponsor a child for the 2018-19 school year. The cost is $5 a week per child, totaling $95 for half a year or $190 for the full school year. Last year we served 14 children each week. The kids take home a backpack of food on Fridays, and it provides them with light meals and snacks to help them get by over the weekend. We believe that when a child is fed, they are equipped to learn, grow and imagine a future filled with opportunity. Last year...
