That’s because efforts are currently underway to establish a new “rural ambulance service district” in the region, and soon local residents will be asked to vote on whether that district should have the authority to levy taxes. During the 2023 legislative session in Bismarck, House Bill 1365 was passed and signed into law by Gov. Doug Burgum, requiring the creation of rural ambulance districts througho...

Eddy County State’s Attorney Ashley Lies spoke of a recent DUI case in whi...

Those taxes are used to fund critical services in communities across the state, including water, sewage treatment, fire departments, law e...

Opportunity in education. Effective education options for every child. Stimulating educational environments. This is what we want for every North Dakota student. And that’s what our elected leaders want, too. In communities across the country, private school advocates have been push... Full story
Cinnamon is in season. We're making apple pies with apples harvested from our backyard trees and pumpkin spice lattes are the flavor of the month on the menu at the local coffee shop. According to Consumer Reports, "the FDA began testing cinnamon sold at various stores after fruit purée apple pouches by Schnucks, WanaBana,...
The Framers of the Constitution seriously considered adoption of a direct popular vote for the election of the president until objections exposed the likelihood that lack of communication, transportation and adequate knowledge of candidates would hobble the ability of Americans to make a reasoned and informed choice. Some feared that voters would not be familiar with national leaders and would reflexively support candidates from their own states. Voter parochialism would undermine the prospects for national union. Although James Madison was an...
Praying through the Psalms has been a wonderful and surprising way to discern and dream and be challenged and comforted by what God might be up to through these ancient and holy words. Psalm 139 just happens to be my favorite. I’ll never forget the early 1990s poster by the mirror at Bible camp – “where can I flee from your presence?” Because at the very heart of life on this earth is God’s presence. God's radical, unwavering, dwell-among-us presence. So for the month of October, let us pray together: Psalm 139. 1 You have searched me, Lord,...

With over two decades as a counselor in Langdon area schools in rural Cavalier County and as a clinical counselor with Catholic Charities, Barbara Boesl has seen shifts in youth mental health.
