  • Sermonette: Christ the King Sunday

Rev Doug Nemitz, First Lutheran Church|Nov 26, 2018

In my tradition, we celebrate Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the Church year, on Nov. 25 this year. The assigned New Testament reading is from Revelation 1:4b-8. In that passage I read, “To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:5b-6). I think we, in the United States, are at a disadvantage in attempting to understand this passage. We don’t know much about kings, except that we don’t...

  • Living on Purpose: Giving thanks for God's beautiful earth

    Dr. Billy Holland|Nov 26, 2018

Imagine if you were the creator of the earth with all of its breathtaking beauty and gave each living creature the gift of life. For every human, you provided a book of your promises which gives a detailed description of how they are to live. And then, you sent your only son to sacrifice his life and raised him from the dead to redeem the souls of all who would believe. Your invitation to deliver those who would believe from the bondage of sin and welcome them to live with you in heaven forever...

    K.C. Gardner Jr.|Nov 26, 2018

Fred Zimmerman was in New Rockford, as was B.G. Arbogast, the latter to inspect his line of elevators. Charles Onstott drove in from eastern Eddy County on business. Young Perry Stanton’s two eight-month old wolfhounds disappeared from his locked barn; the conjecture was they were either stolen or had followed s...

Only Child Dear Only, Most U.S. veterans are eligible for burial and memorial benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration. Veterans who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable are eligible. To verify your dad’s discharge, you’ll need a copy of his DD Form...

  • Dakota Datebook: Touching the spirit of the west

    Tessa Sandstrom|Nov 26, 2018

Nov. 27, 2018 — Thousands of people lined the streets and gathered in the Bismarck auditorium on this day in 1921 to greet the French war hero, Marshal Ferdinand Foch. Marshal Foch was credited for holding the Germans at Marne, and for devising much of the strategy that won the war. Now the war hero was on a tour of the United States, and because he wished to see as much of the United States as possible during his 60-day visit, the tour brought him to Bismarck for one day. Bismarck residents set to work upon the news of his visit, and were dete...
