     On July 4, 1905, the 7-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Welsh took a .22 rifle from his home on the Sheyenne River and went out to shoot gophers, against the wishes of his mother. While he was either looking down the barrel or blowing into it, the rifle discharged and the bullet knocked out a couple teeth and lodged in his cheekbone, just below the eye.
