The annual Brandon Kolstad Memorial Coyote Hunt took place on Sunday, Feb. 25 at Wild Things Taxidermy in Sheyenne. A total of 19 teams signed up for the event and brought in 21 coyotes. Patti Larson visited at the Heritage House in New Rockford last Tuesday and got in on birthday cake and ice cream for her aunt Judy Cudworth. Later in the week, Patti had her uncle Doug Cudworth over for supper to celebrate his 70th birthday. This year's North Dakota Academic All-State teams have been selected, and New Rockford-Sheyenne's Keaton Cudworth has been named to the Class B Silver team. February is grain bin safety month. North Dakota is no exception when it comes to grain bin entrapments and engulfments. In 2020, North Dakota ranked second in the nation for recorded grain bin-related entrapments in the Summary of U.S. Agricultural Confined Space-Related Injuries and Fatalities report from Purdue University. A new county shop is coming to Sheyenne. On Friday, Feb. 9, Eddy County commissioners awarded a bid to New Rockford-based CK Construction for a new 50-by-60 foot structure to be built in Sheyenne this spring. The new shop will take the place of a decades-old structure on the south end of town, just off Highway 281. The City of New Rockford collected $434,351.14 in sales tax last year, according to data obtained by auditor Andrew Presnell. That reflects an increase of nearly 12 percent, when compared to the $388,536.66 collected in 2022. The top two uses of sales tax funds, amounting to a whopping 64 percent of the total, are infrastructure improvements and economic development. Each received $111,193.89 in sales tax funds last year. Amanda Koepplin has been named Eddy County's Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made by NR-S Superintendent Jill Louters at the school board's February meeting, honoring Koepplin for her years of service to the district and making her eligible for recognition at the state and national levels. Giving Hearts Day was another huge success for the Community Ambulance Service of New Rockford (CASNR). Eligible voters across North Dakota favor major overhauls in how the state’s Legacy Fund is managed and how its accumulating funds are used, a new North Dakota Poll conducted by the North Dakota News Cooperative (NDNC) found.
