Wild Outdoor Women (WOW) event set

Lake Metigoshe State Park is hosting the Wild Outdoor Women (WOW) Event February 23-25, 2018. This event is primarily for ladies over the age of 16 who are looking to learn or improve on skills associated with several of North Dakota’s outdoor recreational activities.

WOW events provide excellent opportunities for participants to step out of their comfort zones to try something new and acquire basic skills without having to purchase any equipment. At the end of the sessions, participants have developed skills needed to safely enjoy the outdoors and decide whether they would like to continue to do that activity on their own by purchasing their own gear. There is also something to be said about the comradery that is developed when people who share the same interests and the passion for the outdoors gather to do what they enjoy.

The upcoming event is expanding to offer mini sessions in the evenings and additional activity choices in comparison to last winter’s event. Activities scheduled to take place include cross-country skiing, Dutch oven cooking & care, fish decoy carving & painting, snowshoeing, dark house spearfishing, fur handling, downhill skiing, flint knapping, advanced cross-country skiing, owl calling, snowshoe lacing, snowmobile certification, arm knitting and more! The ND Game & Fish Department, Bottineau Winter Park, North Dakota Forest Service, Renville County Sheriff’s Office and the State Historical Society of North Dakota are collaborating with the ND Parks & Recreation Department for the event. Many sessions will be taught by experts volunteering their time and talents to assist those striving to become Wild Outdoor Women!

Registration opens Monday, December 18, 2017 at noon and closes January 22, 2018. Event information to include activity schedule and descriptions is currently located at http://www.parkrec.nd.gov. To register, visit the website and either register online or print a form to fill and send in via postal mail. Registrations fees vary and range from $20-$85. Lodging is available at the park within the dorms for $10/night. Breakfast, lunch and supper are available for $7, $8 and $10 respectively.
