New Rockford-Sheyenne played a pretty good first half, but Dakota Prairie pulled away in the second half as the Knights defeated the locals by a final score of 56-35 in District 7 Girls Basketball action played here on Tuesday, January 2.
The locals were playing without Ashley Schuster, who is injured, and Hannah Haley, who was on a family vacation.
Dakota Prairie led most of the way and at all quarter stops, 11-10, 23-16, 43-24, and again won by a final of 56-35.
At times each team had trouble handling defensive pressure. Carly Lippert paced the visitors with a game high 14 points. Paige Haakenson added 13. Alli Dockter and Ashlynn Benson each had 10 points to lead the Rockets. Dakota Prairie made 22 field goals, 8 of 15 free throws commited 11 fouls and had 19 turnovers. The Rockets made 17 field goals, 1 of 9 free throws, committed 13 fouls and also had 19 turnovers.
At times the game was quite physical. New Rockford-Sheyenne is now 0-1 in District 7 play and 5-4 overall.
