Overall, the locals played a good game on both ends of the court as New Rockford-Sheyenne defeated Dakota Prairie by a final score of 73-47 in District 7 Boys Basketball action played at McVille on Friday, January 12.
The Knights were playing without Hunter Sand, who broke his arm in a high school playoff football game. At times this game was quite physical.
The Rockets led after one stanza 23-16. By intermission it was all tied up at 32. The locals had a big third quarter, increasing the lead to 56-38, and then chalked up a big District 7 win on the road with a final score of 73-47. Each team had some trouble with defensive pressure.
Dakota Prairie made 18 field goals, 9 of 11 free throws, committed 11 fouls and had 17 turnovers.
New Rockford-Sheyenne made 30 field goals, 7 of 9 free throws, committed 12 fouls and had 12 turnovers.
Tyler Loe paced the Knights with 17 points. Nick Gronaas added 12.
The Rockets had good balance. Bo Belquist led all scorers with 22 points, Teddy Allmaras added 16 and Wilson Howard chipped in with 11 points.
The Rockets are now 2-0 in District 7 and 4-4 overall.
