Fans got their money's worth and more last week when the Rockets hosted two district rivals in thriller contests decided by just a few points.

 Monday brought the Four Winds-Minnewaukan Indians to town to take on the Rocket boys in their season opener. Overall, it was a hard fought game and at times very physical, as Four Winds-Minnewaukan defeated New Rockford- Sheyenne by a final score of 64-56 in District 7 boys basketball action played here before a good crowd on Monday, January 15th.

 Four Winds- Minnewaukan graduated quite a few Seniors off last year's team and started a little slow this season; but with this win, they have now won seven straight. They are very well coached and will be one of the top teams in District 7 and Region 4.

 New Rockford-Sheyenne led early on in the opening stanza, but the visitors led at all quarter stops, 18-17, 31-26, 50-39, and again the Indians came away with a hard fought win.

 JaeShawn Shaw, a freshmen who played for New Rockford-Sheyenne last season, led the Indians with 16 points. Frank Gourd added 12 and Dedrick Robertson chipped in 11.

 The Rockets had excellent scoring balance. Bo Belquist led the way with 14 points, Wilson Howard had 12 points, and Teddy Allmaras and Tucker Longnecker each added 11.

 Four Winds-Minnewaukan made 23 field goals, 10 of 12 free throws, committed 19 fouls and had 9 turnovers. The Rockets made 20 field goals, 13 of 19 free throws, committed 19 fouls and had 12 turnovers.

 New Rockford-Sheyenne is now 2-1 in District 7 and 4-6 overall.

 Friday, January 26, the locals travel to Lakota. Game one is set for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27 the Rockets play host to Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich in a Varsity-JV boys and girls basketball double header with game one to begin at 11:00 a.m.

Rocket girls lose by 3 points

 New Rockford-Sheyenne played host to Lakota in District 7 Girls Basketball action on Tuesday, January 16. The Rockets had their chances, but Lakota defeated the locals by a final score of 44-41. The game was quite close all the way and hard fought.

 The visitors led virtually all the way and at all quarter stops, 14-8, 28-19, 36-29.  

 Breanne Schmidt paced the Raiders with a game high 19 points. Stephanie Bartlett added 14. Hannah Haley paced the locals with 18 points. Carli Lies added 12.  

 Lakota made 15 field goals, 10 of 22 free throws, had 9 fouls, and committed 26 turnovers.

 The Rockets made 17 field goals, 6 of 8 free throws, had 16 fouls and committed 17 turnovers. New Rockford-Sheyenne is now 0-2 in District 7 and 6-7 overall.
