New Rockford Knights of Columbus hosts annual free throw contest

Five girls and six boys from New Rockford ages 9 to 14 were named local champions of the 2018 New Rockford Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. Knights of Columbus Local Council #2477 in New Rockford sponsored the competition at the New Rockford High School Gymnasium on Sunday, Jan. 21

All youngsters ages 9-14 were eligible to participate. There were also second and third place winner's awards given out.

Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contest. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged. All winners will advance to the District Shoot Off which will be held in New Rockford on February 11, starting at 1 p.m.

There were 25 participants in all. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Father Weber, Ed O'Connor and Angie Hopfauf assisted, and the New Rockford School allowed use of the gym.

9-year-old girls: Alivia Yri.

9-year-old boys: Thomas Allmaras, Dyson DuBois, Aaden Benson, Lance Gudmunson.

10-year-old girls: Ava Peterson, Addysen Fandrich.

10-year-old boys: Kage Walford, Vincent Ruppell, Kendrick Hopfauf.

11-year-old girls: Bailey Jacobson, Kaiya O'Connor, Katie Allmaras. Lora Wobbema.

11-year-old boys: Bennett Meier, Lucas Yri, Brody Weisenburger, Clayton DuBois, Duane Mudgett, Jr.

12-year-old boys: Braylon DuBois.

13-year-old girls: Macey Wobbema.

13-year-old boys: Hunter Jacobson, Zander Putney.

14-year-old girls: Kayahna Hopfauf.

14-year-old boys: Evan Ulrich.
