Judson "Judd" Mackrill, age 96, of Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Eventide, Jamestown, ND.
His funeral will be held Monday, February 5 at 9:30AM in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, with Father Dodge & Rev. Joe Greiner presiding. Burial will take place in the Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, Virginia.
Judson Floyd Mackrill was born January 11, 1922, in a sod house in Blaine County, NE. He was the son of Orla and Catherine (Lanum) Mackrill. He grew up mostly on the family ranch near Brewster, NE. Where he attended school and graduated in 1940. Judd attended Grand Island Business College for eight months and moved to Washington D.C. where he went to work as a Civilian Clerk Typist for the Navy. Subsequently he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 27, 1942, and was sent to Navy Radio School at Berkley Springs, West Virginia.
While attending Radio School Judd met Mary Phyllis Umstot of Cumberland, MD. They were united in marriage on December 2, 1944, at Saint Patrick's in New York City, NY, while between Atlantic Convoy Crossings.
He made 13 trips to North Africa, Italy and The United Kingdom while in the Navy. Judd then took employment in Civilian Personnel for the U.S. Army at the Pentagon, where he worked for 34 years. For the last 10 years he worked at the Forrestal Building in Washington D. C., in Management and Employee relations until he retired as a GS13.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Mary Phyllis, Jamestown, his son Gary (Linda), Cathay, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Judd also leaves four nephews and five nieces and numerous great-nephews and nieces.
Judd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ollie, Charles, Bob, and Jim; sisters Margie and Twila; son Dennis; one nephew, one niece, and one great niece.
