H. Myron Hanson, 94, of Lisbon, ND, formerly of New Rockford, ND, died Friday, February 2, 2018 at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon. Private family services will be held at a later date at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Myron was born on September 18, 1923 in Hamar, ND the son of John and Ella (Rude) Hanson. He was raised and educated in Hamar. At 20 years old, Myron was drafted into the United States Army and served in WWII. He was part of the 334th Infantry Regiment 84th "Railsplitters" Division as a 60mm Motar Ammo Carrier and Gunner. Myron served in the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes and battles in Rhineland and central Europe. He was well decorated for his service. Myron was awarded the Bronze star, Combat Infantry Badge, European Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, and the Army of Occupation Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm and ranch to help his father.
Myron was united in marriage to Belva Tollefsrud in Tolna, ND. They made there home on the Hanson Farm, where Myron continued to farm and ranch until 1963, when he went to Lake Region Junior College to further his education. He received an associate degree in Survey Engineering. Myron went to work for the United States Government as a Bureau of Reclamation Surveyor working in North Dakota and Montana. After his retirement, Myron continued to farm and ranch but also, tended to the garden, planting many flowers and trees around the farm.
Myron and Belva enjoyed traveling, especially the trip they took to Norway. They also enjoyed camping, which they started doing shortly after their marriage. They took many trips with their children throughout the United States, including Alaska, and Canada. Myron was also an avid Class B Basketball fan. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Myron is survived by his children: Myrna (Tom Watson) Hanson of New Rockford, ND; Michelle (Jeff) McQuarrie of Hackensack, MN; Lyndon Hanson of Hamar, ND; Colleen (Troy) Kraft of Argusville, ND; Kyle (Deslee Olson) Hanson of Fargo, ND; Shannon (Jim) Olson of Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren: Jade Eisenzimmer, Alana and Colton Kraft, Brooke (Rick) Ramirez, Dalton Hanson, Denis, Jacob and Nicholas Olson; two great-grandchildren: Penelope and Noah Ramirez; two sisters: Averiel Enger of Grand Forks, ND; Verna Sauer of New Rockford, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Belva (2005), three infant siblings and brother, Darroll Hanson.
