David Lloyd Loe, 78, Washburn, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 21, 2018 at his daughter's home in Wisconsin. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Washburn with Pastor Erik Johnson officiating.
David was born at home in Hillsdale Township, ND on October 25, 1939 to Lloyd and Emma (Birkland) Loe. The seventh of eight children, he was raised in rural North Dakota and attended Hillsdale Country School. He graduated from Sheyenne High School in 1957. He attended Valley City State University and Minot State University until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and served until 1963.
On July 2, 1966, David married Jeneen Omoth in New Rockford, ND. They lived in New Rockford and welcomed three children into their family before moving to Washburn in 1980 for David's job at the Falkirk Mining Company. He retired from the mine in 2006.
David enjoyed a wonderful life and cherished time spent with his family and friends the most. He spent countless hours watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. He loved to travel with Jeneen for sightseeing trips as well as to visit family and friends. David was an avid reader, loved to play cards, and could always be counted on to tell a joke or a story. He gave a legendary bear hug.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeneen of Washburn; son, David Mark (Cathy) Loe and granddaughter, Jordana, of Carlsbad, CA; daughter, Maren (Jesse) Binkley and granddaughter Bianca of Seattle, WA; daughter, Meridith (Tom) Derrig and granddaughters Amelia and Mirabelle of Delafield, WI; sisters, Ellen (Fyllis) Burthold, Betty Anderson, and Marilyn Stenberg; brother, Irvin (Barb) Loe; and brother-in-law, Arlo Omoth.
David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emil "Spud" Loe, and Mike Loe; sister, Laurel Kokko; three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in- law.
