New Rockford-Sheyenne played well overall as a team defeated Griggs County Central by a final score of 74-39 in non-district boys basketball action played at Cooperstown on Tuesday, February 13.
The Cougars are a very young team and they compete in a very tough Region 2, with the likes of Thompson, Cavalier and Hillsboro-Central Valley as top teams.
The Rockets led all the way and at all quarter stops, 19-9, 46-18, 59-25. At times the game was very physical.
All of the Rockets saw valuable playing time, eleven scored and everyone contributed to the win.
Griggs County Central made 16 field goals, did not attempt a free throw, had 18 fouls, and committed 23 turnovers. New Rockford-Sheyenne made 27 field goals, 17 of 21 free throws, had 11 fouls and committed only 9 turnovers.
Isaac Smith led the Cougars with 12 points. The Rockets had excellent scoring balance. Bo Belquist led the way with a game high 16
points, Hunter Thompson and Wilson Howard each had 12, and Teddy Allmaras chipped in 10 points.
New Rockford-Sheyenne is now 10-8, overall. Next action for the Rockets will be the District 7 Boys Basketball tournament to be held in Devils Lake on February 23, 24 and 26.
