Alf Stangeland, 93, died March 4, 2018, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, N.D. Funeral services were held March 12, 2018 at Federated Church UCC/UMC in Carrington. Burial was at Grace City Cemetery, Grace City, N.D. Rev. Rick Loewen officiated and music was provided by Clara Edwardson and Lucas and Amy Strangeland. Honorary casket bearers were all of Alf's grandchildren.
Alf Stangeland was born in the Shea home in Cooperstown, N.D., on November 8, 1924, and lived near Juanita, N.D., most of his life. His parents were Trygue and Karen (Volstad) Stangeland. He attended Juanita school and he joined the U.S. Air Corp in May 1946 where he acquired his GED.
Alf married Margaret Wright on March 24, 1951, in the Grace City Methodist Church. They were married for 66 years. In 1986 Alf and Margaret received the Foster County Outstanding Agriculturist Award. In 2011, they moved to Carrington, N.D.
He was very community minded and served on various local, county and church boards. Alf served on the ASCS county board and McHenry School Board.
Alf is survived by his wife; children, Colleen (Leslie) Greger, Jon (Connie), Jeff, and Ronn (Cindy) all of Glenfield, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers Lloyd (Carol) and Harold (Karen) and one sister June McDaniel. One brother-in-law Keith (Margie) Wright, one sister-in-law Norma and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister; three brother-in-laws and four sister-in-laws.
