Rodney Allen Zieman, 71, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the VA Hospital in Fargo, N.D. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Carrington. Burial will be Carrington Cemetery, Carrington in the spring. Rev. Fred Grundmann and Rev. Bruce Vold officiated and special music was provided by Linda Schuster and Scott Beumer. Casket bearers were Jerome Neis, Barry McNett, Paul Hungness, Mike Balvith, Ron Throlsam and Danny Smerud. Honorary bearers were all of Rod's grandchildren, Everett Grosgebauer, Mic Molberg, Gradyn Albrecht, Doug Mack, as well as the the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Rod was born Feb. 16, 1947, in New Rockford, N.D., the son of Richard "Allen" and Dorothy (Hanson) Zieman. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Sheyenne, N.D. Rodney graduated from Sheyenne High School in 1965. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966. Rod served as a ND Highway Patrol trooper from 1969-1985, he later earned his license as an addiction counselor.
On April 10, 1971, Rod married Holly Hegland at Antelope Valley Lutheran Church in Oberon, N.D. They lived in Fargo until Rod 1973 when they moved to Carrington. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
Rod was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW and the American Legion of Carrington.
Rod is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; two daughters, Nikole (Culley) Hoggarth of Carrington and Nerissa (Eric) Zink of Fargo; son, Reed (Kinsey) of Casselton; 14 grandchildren; siblings Jim (Deb) Zieman of Sheyenne and DiAnn (Gary) Broderius of Billings, Mont.; several brother and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, brother-in-law; in-laws, and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, Rod requested memorials be given to the VA Wishes on Wings (a service for Veterans on Hospice), Attn: Voluntary Services, 2101 Elm St. Fargo, ND 58102.
