Williams sentenced for theft, criminal trespass

Bench warrants issued for no-shows

Ronald Eric Williams II, of New Rockford, was sentenced in Eddy County on a host of offenses March 15, including class B felony unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and class C felony theft of property. He also pleaded guilty to driving under suspension, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass, all misdemeanor offenses.

Williams pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to five years in the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (NDDOCR), with three years suspended. He will be placed on supervised probation for three years following his release from prison. Williams also forfeited his van to authorities at sentencing.

The charges stemmed from a November 26, 2016, traffic stop where he was cited for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. He was later charged with theft after a search of his van yielded approximately $6,800 worth of clothing that had the merchant tags and theft prevention devices still affixed. His vehicle and its contents were seized by authorities for evidence at the time of his arrest. Then, the day he posted bond, Williams climbed the chain link fence that secures the Eddy County Sheriff's Department impound lot and cut the barb wire in order to access his impounded van, which resulted in the criminal trespass charge.

Williams also has an active bench warrant in Stutsman Conty for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. That charge was filed in December 2017.
