Tjelta selected to West Point Military Academy

The Devils Lake JROTC program would like to congratulate Ian Tjelta of Sheyenne on his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Each year, more than 13,000 candidates file for admission to West Point, but only about 4,000 receive a nomination. Out of the 4,000 nominated, only 1,200 are appointed and accepted into the academy.

Tjelta plans on majoring in military history. After graduating he would like to serve at least 20 years in the Army Ranger or in a tank corps. After retiring, Tjelta will follow the inspiration gained from high school world history teacher, Tyler Marquart, and teach high school history.

Tjelta says that by being accepted into this prestigious school, he will be able to travel the world, get good future jobs and accomplish his dreams.
