Richard Ernest Schrum Sr., 71, passed away December 21, 2016 in Tulsa, Okla. A graveside service was held December 28, 2016 at Graceland Cemetery in Owasso, Okla.
Richard was born to Adam and Barbara (Blatchford) Schrum on April 11, 1945 in
Edgeley, N.D.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17. Upon returning from the service, Richard earned his GED. Richard was an amateur boxer and coached boxing for Tulsa Indian Youth Council. He raced stock cars at the Tulsa Speedway and drove car number 32.
He worked for Pettibone Equipment, as well as having his own business, as a heavy equipment mechanic. Richard was also a Tulsa Auxiliary Police Officer and Deputy Sheriff for Tulsa County. Within the last 15 years, he was a member Service Officer and Chaplain of the American Legion.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Richanda Schrum; Marcella A. Schrum; one granddaughter; sisters, Marlyn Morris and Emily Beach and brother, Ervin Schrum.
He is survived by his children: Barbara (Larry) Shope, Janet (Wayne) Moore, Lisa (Jared) Hinton, Rhonda Schrum, Richard Schrum Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; siblings: Lois (Carlton) Larson Jr., Carrington, N.D.; Bob (Jan) Schrum, Dickinson, N.D.; Elaine Reynolds Dallas, Texas; and Wilbur "Buck" (Maribeth) Schrum, Raeford, N.C.
