Clean-Up Week is May 14-18

It’s spring cleaning time in New Rockford! The City of New Rockford is once again holding Spring Clean-Up Week May 14-18. This Clean-Up Week is an opportunity for city residents to bring large items to the boulevards for city workers to haul to the landfills at no cost. This gives residents the opportunity to dispose of the unwanted items in their homes and yards, including old furniture, major appliances and tires.

City residents will be responsible for hauling items out of their homes and yards and bringing the items to the boulevards. There are, however, some items that will not be accepted or picked up off the boulevards. Unacceptable items include paint, electronics, chemicals, propane tanks, batteries and construction materials. No building materials or concrete will be accepted.

It is important to note that, although electronics will not be accepted at the curb, they will be accepted at City Hall May 7-20.

As it was last year, there will be a designated schedule for pick-up. Tires and appliances will only be picked up on Monday. Furniture will be picked up on Tuesday and Wednesday, and metal and wood on Thursday and Friday. There is a clip and save ad on page B1 in this week’s edition of the County Extra that includes the pick-up schedule.

Please separate items of the same type into distinct piles such as tires, appliances or furniture to make for easier pick-up. Regular household garbage should still be placed in Waste Management containers and not left on the boulevards, as city workers will not be hauling out household garbage.

Yard waste, including grass clippings, leaves and pine needles should be taken to the city compost pile southwest of the Eagles Club at any time. These items should not be set out on the boulevards for pick-up during clean up week. If items are left on the boulevard at the end of the week, it is the responsibility of the resident to haul them out to the landfill on free landfill day.

Residents will again have the option to haul large items to the landfill throughout the summer with designated free dump days. The first is scheduled for May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be an ad in the next County Extra with a list of dates and times and the details can also be found on the city website, http://www.cityofnewrockford.com.
