NR-S students excel at N.D. Class B Music Contest

The 2018 North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) held the State Class B Music Festival on Saturday, May 5 at the Bismarck State College. Jill Bergstedt and Dr. John Darling served as festival managers.

The NDHSAA State Class B Music Festival involved vocal and instrumental solos and ensembles including up to 12 participants per entry. New Rockford- Sheyenne (NR-S) school was represented by 39 students, 29 solos and ensembles.

There were 23 judges at the festival who awarded 875 performances. There were four ratings possible: Star, 1, 2 and 3. From NR-S there were 23 star (superior) ratings and six 1 (excellent) ratings.

Each judge had the opportunity to grant one Outstanding Performer Award from the entries adjudicated during the day. Outstanding Performers from New Rockford were Nick Hovey singing, Pur dicesti o bocca bella; Jared Hartl for his performance on the tuba playing Andante and Rondo, and the men's vocal ensemble, consisting of nine young men (pictured above), singing Lux Aurumque.
