Schaefer headed to state golf

Benjamin Schaefer, a sophomore at New Rockford-Sheyenne High School, has qualified to compete in the State Class B Golf Tournament on May 29 and 30 at Maple River Golf Club in Mapleton. Schaefer qualified by tying for seventh place in the boys division at the Region II Tournament in Carrington on Tuesday, May 15. He shot an 80.

This is the second year in a row that Schaefer has qualified for the state tournament. He is coached by Harry Pieterick this year. Interestingly enough, Pieterick also coached Ben's dad, Monty, exactly 40 years ago when the New Rockford Rockets basketball team competed in the Class B Boys Basketball Tournament in 1978.
