Community mourns the loss of Commissioner Allmaras

New Rockford City Commissioner DeVon Allmaras passed away in her home on June 5 after an ongoing battle with cancer.

It was a battle that didn't ever seem to keep her from maintaining her duties to the community where she was born and raised. In fact, the night before she died, she was present at the New Rockford City Commission meeting, fulfilling her civic duty.

Near the end of her life, Allmaras reflected on her various roles in the community, as she wrote, "To me, enjoying your community means contributing your time to be part of that community's network. I have enjoyed being part of the Eddy-New Rockford Library Board, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxillary, the Women's Auxiliary Cemetery Association, the Eddy County Museum and Historical Society, the Eddy County Housing Board and serving on the New Rockford City Commission."

Allmaras also served as Eddy County Superintendent of Schools and Deputy Eddy County Auditor.

Anyone who served alongside Allmaras on one of these boards or organizations knows her presence had a profound impact. She will be missed by many.

Funeral services for Allmaras were held on Saturday, June 9 at St. John's Catholic Church in New Rockford. See the full obituary here: https://www.newrockfordtranscript.com/story/2018/06/11/obituaries/obituary-devon-allmaras/972.html.
