James Nelson recently had a phone conversation with Don Knutson of Phoenix, Ariz. Jarvis and Patty Hegland visited James Tuesday and Howard and Helen Schmid paid him a visit on Wednesday.
Lester Roberts reported that he went to the Peace Gardens with a couple of women on Saturday. Those women were Jackie and Linda Madson. They attended the International Old-Time Fiddle Contest held at the Burdick Center for the Performing Arts.
The Fiddle Contest is held each year on the second Thursday, Friday and Saturday in June. There were workshops for Fiddle, Bass, Guitar and 5-string Banjo on Thursday and Friday. Friday evening starts with the Old-Time Fiddler’s Hall of Fame Induction ceremony which is followed by a concert.
Saturday, the contest began at 9 a.m. Categories were: Small-fry Division – age 8 and under; Junior-Junior Division- Age 9-12; Junior Division- Age 13-18; Adult Division-Age 19-64; and Senior Division- 65 and over. Saturday evening the winners were announced with cash prizes totaling $2,000 and trophies were awarded.
The Peace Gardens were beautiful with all the flowers in bloom.
Roger Roberts visited Lester and Jackie on Sunday.
Lester visited James Nelson on Sunday evening.
Sandy Poulsen recently enjoyed a visit in Mandan with Jesse and Chelsea Jordan and Elliot.
Monday, Randy and Charlotte Simon helped Amy Simon celebrate her birthday with cake at Lee, Amy Easton and Jaxon’s home.
Charlotte had a “sew day” with Sue LaFleur at Sue’s home.
Carson, Heidi, Max and Elin Thompson of Grand Forks arrived at the Simon’s home on Friday.
Also spending the weekend at the Simon home were Mark, Tessa, Mason and Miles Simon.
Friday, Max played t-Ball with the Maddock team against Leeds. Easton and Jaxon played Pony ball against Leeds. Grandpa and Grandma Simon attended to cheer for the boys.
Charlotte’s family get-together, known as “Christmas in June” was held on Saturday at the Rugby Fairgrounds building. Only one brother out of the 10 children were unable to attend. All of Randy and Charlotte’s children and their families were there.
Charlotte’s mom, Jo An Bosch, celebrated her 87th birthday with her family.
Randy and Charlotte attended the prayer service for Faith Rehling Sunday evening.
Linda Madson’s cousin, David VenHuizen of Anoka, Minn., visited the Madson’s Thursday afternoon and was a supper guest Thursday evening. Melodie Watt and Kennedee and McKenzee also enjoyed David’s visit.
