When the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday, what’s a patriotic town to do? Schedule events for two weekends in a row, that’s what!
The 2018 Independence Day Celebration in New Rockford and Sheyenne officially kicks off this weekend with bingo at Ostby Hall in Sheyenne on Saturday night, June 30. A street dance at the Eagles Club in New Rockford will follow, where you can dance to the Cody Charles Band and meet up with old friends.
On Sunday, the Eddy-New Rockford Library hosts its annual brunch fundraiser at the Eagles Club, and the City of Sheyenne has a day full of activities, starting with the rodeo slack performance at 9 a.m., followed by worship at Warsing Dam at 10:30 and the NDRA Rodeo at 2 p.m.
On Wednesday, all the regular Independence Day activities are on tap, with the New Rockford parade starting at 10 a.m., Sheyenne parade to follow at 11 a.m., and barbecue lunches served in both communities afterward. Pool games, the Lions Lucky Duck Race, supper in the park and fireworks at dusk round out the day in New Rockford.
Now’s the time to enter your vehicle or float for the parades. Call Surety Title at 947-2446 for the New Rockford parade. For the Sheyenne parade, call 996-2121 or 996-4721.
