Bob and Nora Evenson, Don and Linda Evenson and what seemed like all of Washington state, arrived in Sheyenne the week before the Fourth of July to visit and help out at the home of Dick Evenson. They also did some visiting around the area while here and took in the July 4 activities.
Steve Loe of Lincoln, Neb., arrived at the home of his mother Jan Loe on Monday, July 2, for a week-and-a-half visit with Mom and sister Steph. While here, he helped with some chores around Jan's home. His daughter Maddy and friend Joe, also from Lincoln, arrived here on the July 4 and they returned home on July 7, while Steve stay here for a few more days.
Monday evening, July 2, Bonnie Tweten, Carrington; Coral Mahler of Oberon; Nora Evenson, Vancouver, Wash.; Christie Buckmeier, Eden Prairie, Minn., and Patti Clifton got together for an evening of visiting and reminiscing. It was a fun night with lots of memories and laughter.
Tuesday, July 3, Patti Clifton and Christie Buckmeier enjoyed lunch in Carrington and later visited with Holly Zieman at her home.
It was another successful Independence Day celebration in Sheyenne with close to 500 attendees enjoying the parade and annual Pit Beef BBQ at Ostby Hall. The annual dinner was prepared and served by volunteers from the Sheyenne Fire Department and First Lutheran WELCA members.
Parade winners at Sheyenne were Bird Dawg Cafe of New Rockford, Best Decorated; Warren Implement, Most Original; Spiderman and the Sheyenne Community Band, Most Entertaining; Roger Eversvik Team, Best Horse; and Merle Longnecker's White Hot Rod, Best Antique Vehicle.
Following the parade and dinner, Jan Loe, Steph and Steve, Marilyn Stenberg and Denise Stenberg of Lakota, Jason Stenberg of Pekin, Rhoda Stenberg, and Jim and Marjean Woodrow of Grand Forks enjoyed visiting at the Sheyenne Senior Center.
Donations have been received in memory of Marla Hendrickson and will be used to purchase items needed to help with preparing and serving the annual Independence Day dinner at Ostby Hall. Coming to Sheyenne for the Fourth of July activities was one of Marla's favorite activities each year.
Neighbor helped neighbor and many volunteers once again came together to help with clearing downed trees and debris following the storm early on the morning of Sunday, July 8. We are once again reminded that we truly have a caring and helping community when there is need.
