Post 30 sweeps Hope-Finley Horn Frogs

New Rockford Post 30 traveled to the town of Hope on Monday, July 9 to play two games against the Hope-Finley Horn Frogs in the Central Section American Legion Baseball standings.

Game One

The locals plated one run in the first. Teddy Allmaras drew a two-out walk. He advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single to right by Seth Soderholm. Hope-Finley scored their only two runs of the game in the first.

Post 30 came up with one run in the second. Luke Ystaas drew a lead-off walk. He scored on a one-out single to right by Bo Belquist. New Rockford added one more in the fourth. Ystaas drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Hunter Thompson reached on a fielder's choice as Ystaas was put out at third base. Thompson stole second and scored on a single to left by Belquist.

The locals scored a whopping 11 runs in the fifth, sending 15 batters to the plate. Allmaras batted twice in the inning, and knocked in three runs total: two on a double and one on a single.

Soderholm also batted twice. He knocked in one run on a single and one more on a bases loaded walk. Tucker Longnecker knocked in one run on a double. Belquist knocked in two runs on a single. Nathan Holzwarth also knocked in one run on a single. The other runs were scored as a result of a passed ball and an error. Post 30 won game one by a final of 14-2.

Cole Myhre pitched a good overall game for the locals.

NR: Myhre had 8 strikeouts. Belquist 3 for 4, Longnecker 3 for 4, double, Allmaras 2 for 3, Soderholm 2 for 3, Hunter Thompson and Holzwarth each had one hit.

Game Two

New Rockford was the home team. Post 30 came up with two runs in the first. Belquist led off and reached third base on an error. He scored as Tyrus Smith also reached second base on an error. He scored on a single to left by Allmaras. Hope-Finley plated one run in the third. New Rockford scored one run in the third. Allmaras led off with a double to left. He scored on a single to left by Longnecker.

Hope-Finley scored their final four runs of the game in the fourth. Post 30 scored one run in the fourth. Belquist reached second base with one out. He scored on a two out single to right by Allmaras. New Rockford took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs. Belquist led off with a double to left. Smith drew a walk. Belquist scored on a single to right by Allmaras. Soderholm knocked in Smith on a sacrifice fly. Longnecker knocked in Allmaras on another sacrifice fly. Post 30 won game two as well by a final score of 7-5. Tucker Longnecker and Teddy Allmaras pitched pretty good overall for Post 30. Each team definitely had their chances, as Post 30 left 10 runners on base to nine for Hope-Finley.
