Elva Mary Jean Lewis Harrington, 90, of New Rockford, N.D., passed from this world into the arms of Jesus, on Monday, July 30, 2018, under the care of Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd Hospice Care in New Rockford.
Elva Lewis Harrington was born on July 6, 1928, on the family farm located in Tiffany Township in Eddy County. She is the daughter of Charles C. and Mary E. (Finley) Lewis. Elva attended Lake Washington Country School. In 10th grade, Elva sacrificially stepped back from her schooling to help with her younger siblings at home. Elva went on to work in many more serving opportunities, including the City Rockford Hospital, Trinity Hospital in Minot, as a Home Healthcare Service Provider, an aide and volunteer at McKinley Elementary School in Minot, and a home daycare provider. Elva married Marvin Leroy Harrington on September 4, 1952, in New Rockford.
Elva enjoyed many things in life. Music was always a part of her home and she loved hearing her cherished hymns played and sung by family and friends. She loved hearing the harmonies sung, the keys played, and the strings strummed...they always brought her such great joy and peace! Elva loved rocking babies -- her own kids, grandkids, great grand-kids, or those she just wanted to love on, were often found cradled on her lap. There was no doubt she took joy in little ones. The hunt for a good recipe was a favorite pastime for Elva. She loved collecting, sampling and sharing new ways of making something special to savor. She enjoyed venturing out with her husband, Marvin, on country drives, experiencing the peace and company of the drive, making it a weekly request. Elva was one who simply loved visiting with others over a cup of coffee. Laughter often consumed these times of conversation. She loved her Heavenly Father and sharing this love with others.
"I'm so glad that I have been to the cross for a cleansing from all my sins. I count it a great privilege to be able to learn of the things of God, that I may be better fitted to tell others of salvation in Christ Jesus. Of the wonderful things that one may have if they would only partake of the Lord." ~ Elva Mary Jean Lewis Harrington
