A Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Enforcement Period began Friday, Aug. 17.
Drivers on North Dakota roads are reminded to always drive sober, or to always find a sober driver. In an effort to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road, law enforcement agencies across North Dakota will run extra patrols as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign from Aug. 17 to Sept. 3.
Preliminary data from 2017 reports in North Dakota shows 55 motor vehicle fatalities and 472 injuries due to an alcohol-related crash. This translates to one alcohol-related fatality every seven days in North Dakota. In fact, nearly one in five or 19 percent of adult arrests in North Dakota are for driving under the influence (DUI).
“Make a difference in your life and the lives of others by always choosing to drive sober or find a sober driver,” says Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser. “We want everyone to get the message that impaired driving impacts more than just you.”
This campaign is part of the Vision Zero strategy to eliminate motor vehicle crash fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads.
