Youth football teams head to playoffs

The New Rockford-Sheyenne (NR-S) Rockets youth football program has had a successful season this far. Two teams, one each for grades 3-4 and 5-6, have competed in league play with Carrington, Griggs County, Harvey-Wells County and Barnes County North.

 The fifth and sixth grade team is undefeated and sits atop the league standings headed into the playoffs, which start Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Carrington.

 The only league loss for the third and fourth grade team came Tuesday, Sept. 25 against Harvey-Wells County, played in Harvey during a downpour. The Rockets are now 3 -1 in league play and 3-3 overall. They played two games against a tough Devils Lake team in September.

 The last game of the regular season sent the Rockets fifth and sixth grade team to Cando on Thursday, Sept. 27.

 Anxious spectators should watch the New Rockford Transcript website and Facebook page for more details about the playoffs, for which game times were yet to be determined as of press time.

 Below are the league standings as of Wednesday, Sept. 26. Harvey Wells County and Griggs Countywere set to play the last league games of the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 27.

 The third and fourth grade team is led by Will Meadows. The fifth and sixth graders are coached by Reed Weisenburger. Several parents also assist for both teams.
