Think back to high school. Remember that boy or girl who broke your heart. You think your breakup was bad? Well, it probably wasn't one of the worst of all time.
Midkota High School presents "The 9 Worst Breakups of All Time" this Friday and Saturday at the Glenfield gymnasium. Cassidy Hoyt stars as Katie, who goes through a breakup. She meets Eve Tonsil, an employee of the nonprofit company "Relationships for a Better Tomorrow." Hannah Ehlers is Eve, who takes Katie on a tour of the nine worst breakups of all time, from the cro-magnon era to the Civil War, to a smattering of modern-day breakups. This one-act comedy proves that no matter how hard someone has stomped on your heart... it could always be worse.
A host of other high school students will act out the nine mostly hilarious, but sometimes heartbreaking, breakup scenes. The troupe is directed by Mrs. Rami Topp, the sixth grade teacher at Midkota. Topp said she was involved in theatre at Northwood High School, her alma mater, and at Mayville State, where she earned her degree in elementary education. She has led fifth and sixth grade musicals since she began teaching at Midkota, and she wanted an opportunity to direct high school students. This is the first time the school has had high school theatre in some time.
Although the performance would qualify to enter the regional One-Act Play competition, Topp said this one is just for fun. The public is invited to attend the performances, set for 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3. Admission is FREE for Midkota students, $3 for area students and $5 for adults.
