Three NR-S alumni from the Class of 2018 were recognized at the Trees Bowl and Awards Ceremony held in Fargo on Sept. 29. Wilson Howard, Abby Makay, Justin Nystrom and instructor Jim Fleming accepted the 2018 "Youth Tree Planters of the Year" award.
Nominations were received from across the state and the award winners were recognized by the North Dakota Forest Service and North Dakota State University.
The 2018 Senior Class did an outstanding job of "adopting" the school's Outdoor Learning Site (OWLS) Garden by tending to and sprucing up the site. This class is collectively very environmentally conscious and recognizes the value of the OWLS garden as a place for students and teachers to enjoy nature.
During the awards ceremony, NDSU President Dean Bresciani and State Forester Larry Kotchman presented each winner with a special Trees Awards plaque and limited edition Centennial Trees print. The award winners were also recognized on the field during the NDSU half-time activities at the winning Trees Bowl football game in the Fargodome.
