Pollert elected N.D. House majority leader

District 29 Representative Chet Pollert, owner of G&R Grain and Feed in New Rockford, was elected House majority leader on Tuesday, Nov. 13. He succeeds Al Carlson of Fargo, who was unseated in the Nov. 6 election.

Pollert is a Carrington resident who has served District 29, which includes parts of Foster, Stutsman and LaMoure counties, since 1999. Other lawmakers considered for the post included Bismarck's Mike Nathe and Minot's Dan Ruby.

Pollert chaired the human resources division of the House Appropriations Committee and was a member of the budget-writing committee last session. He currently serves as vice chair of the interim Legislative Audit and Fiscal Review Committee.

Representative Scott Louser of Minot was elected assistant majority leader and Representative Shannon Roers Jones of Fargo was elected caucus chairman.

Republicans also voted to put forward Representative Larry Klemin of Bismarck as Speaker of the House for the upcoming legislative session, which will be formalized by a vote on the House floor during the Organizational Session on December 3.

The 66th Legislative assembly will convene for the regular session at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. Information on the legislative assembly can be found at legis.nd.gov.
