New Rockford-Sheyenne had a pretty good overall team effort and the locals defeated Rolette-Wolford by a final score of 50-24, in girls basketball action, played here on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
It was the season opener for both teams. Mandy Fandrich is again the head coach for varsity, Craig Demester is the junior varsity coach and Jordan Brown is coaching the junior high girls this year.
The Rockets hope to be quite competitive in District 7. Harvey-Wells County, Four Winds and Benson County should all be solid competitors. Langdon and North Star are expected District 8.
The locals led all the way and at all quarter stops. 10-2, 20-10, 36-20 and again cruised to a 50-24 win. The Comets made 7 field goals 9 of 11 free throws and committed 11 fouls. The Rockets made 21 field goals, hit 7 of 12 free throws and committed 11 fouls. NR-S is 1-0 overall.
Next action for the Rockets is Monday, Dec. 3, when the junior high hosts Medina-Pingree-Buchanan. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
On Tuesday Dec. 4, the locals travel to Cando to take on the North Star Bearcats. Game time is 4:30 p.m., starting with the junior high.
