The Eddy County Sheriff's Office hosted its annual Shop with the Sheriff event on Thursday, Dec. 13.
Over 30 youth were accompanied by nearly a dozen law enforcement officers from Eddy and Foster counties. Participants met at the Eddy County Courthouse before processing down Central Avenue with their lights flashing and sirens blaring. Each officer matched up with two or three youth then spent time at Do it Best Hardware, Central Pharmacy and Dollar General seeking out gifts for themselves and their family members. This year each child got $75 to spend. Afterwards they enjoyed supper while wrapping the gifts they purchased.
This program fosters positive relationships between law enforcement, the community and children ages 6 to 15 from all backgrounds. The Shop with the Sheriff program is made possible through generous donations and is open to any child who chooses to participate.
